Canigao Island is a small coral islet located approximately 5 kilometers off the coast of Matalom in Southern Leyte, with coordinates near 10.25°N, 124.75°E. The island is managed by the Matalom LGU and is accessible by a 15 to 20-minute pump boat ride from Matalom pier. It features powdery white sand, crystal-clear shallow waters ideal for snorkeling, and a relaxed atmosphere with coconut palms providing natural shade. Visitors must register at the Matalom Municipal Hall before boarding boats to the island. Overnight camping is permitted with tent pitching available at PHP 100 per tent. The entrance fee is PHP 40 for adults and PHP 20 for children. Open cottages cost PHP 500 for day use and PHP 700 for overnight. Private rooms are also available at PHP 1,500. The island has no permanent electricity — local vendors and resort operators run portable generators during evening hours only, so campers should bring power banks. Basic comfort room facilities are available. Local vendors sell fresh seafood, and visitors are free to bring their own food and drinks without corkage fees.
