Mount Talinis, locally called 'Cuernos de Negros' (Horns of Negros), is a complex volcano in Valencia, Negros Oriental, rising to approximately 1,903 meters — the second-highest summit on Negros Island after Mt. Kanlaon. The mountain is characterized by active hydrothermal features including fumaroles, boiling mud pools, and sulfuric hot springs. Two crater lakes, Nailig and Yagumyum, serve as the primary overnight camping destinations for trekkers, with the Nailig lake crater offering the most spacious tent area. Access is via the Apolong Trail from Valencia, approximately 9 to 20 km southwest of Dumaguete City. Permit fees include a Valencia municipal permit of PHP 50 and a Dauin permit of PHP 100, in addition to a mandatory guide fee of PHP 1,000 per guide per day. The multi-day route typically takes 2 to 3 days. As of October 2025, one source reported a temporary one-year closure imposed by local authorities to allow ecosystem recovery; travelers should verify current status with the Valencia LGU or Dumaguete tourism office before planning a climb. Camping is self-supported with no facilities at the crater lakes.
