Lake Mapanuepe in Barangay Aglao, San Marcelino, Zambales is one of the province's newest destinations, nicknamed the New Zealand of Zambales for its vast green pastures and pine-covered hills. The lake spans more than 500 hectares with a depth of 20 meters and was formed after Mt. Pinatubo's 1991 eruption, when lahar blocked the Mapanuepe Valley's water exits and submerged two barangays. The lakeside site offers boat rides, trekking, bird watching, and camping among forest and mountain scenery, reachable by 4x4.
